Identify the original source
Find whether the information comes from an official team, league, player, tournament, accredited reporter or a site repeating another article. Record publication time and check whether a later update changed the claim.
A headline that says a player is a doubt is not the same as a confirmed absence.
Check timing and competition context
A suspension may apply to one competition but not another. A reported injury may have occurred before a later training update. Match location and time zone can also affect whether a report is current.
Use at least two independent sources for high-impact availability claims when possible.
Update the analysis, not just the headline
Ask how the news changes expected roles, rotation, formation or schedule load. Do not assume every absence has the same effect.
If the impact cannot be supported, reduce confidence and explain why.
